The Benefits of Using Reclaimed Wood Furniture

It’s high time that we start to learn the importance of protecting our precious environment and take the responsibility to act now. As per the calculations of the United Nations Environment Programme goes, already 12 tree species have been enrolled in the endangered list. Most of these trees have been popular choices for wooden furniture. However, recycling the old woods can definitely check this problem of extensive tree felling and protect the environment in a significant way by killing lesser trees.

Old or used woods which are discarded from demolished homes, ships, and bridges are often recycled to produce a reusable version of wood. This wood is called reclaimed wood. This old wood is retrieved from the sites of decommissioned buildings. Sometimes many antique stores and select wood merchants also sell reclaimed wood. Reclaimed wood furniture is considered eco friendly for another reason. The old lumber is given a second life after harvesting, refurbishing and then converting it into a useful piece of furniture like an antique dresser or a fancy coffee table.
Not only does this kind of wood check unnecessary depletion of forest but also doesn’t use the toxic paints and polishes used in conventional furniture woods. The reclaimed woods are also painted and polished but the chemical used in this case is not toxic or synthetic which can degrade the surrounding air quality. The usage of non-toxic glue, organic paint and natural oil finishes not only impart a fresh and beautiful look to the reclaimed wood but also make it a high quality product.
