If you have just been to a friend’s house and are completely swept away by some incredible furniture they have just added, try and check for where it has come from. Most people today are looking at reclaimed furniture to add a touch of class and glamour to their homes.
It is amazing to see the kind of transformation that can be achieved with the use of reclaimed furniture. Not just to your home, but to the reclaimed product as well. Today, it is not just wood that is being reclaimed, but several other materials and products which would otherwise get to landfills are also being used. It is wonderful to see how aluminium and iron, or even the most bizarre rejects can be given new life.
Within your own home, it is not always necessary to buy some new reclaimed artefact or piece of furniture. You can quite easily manage to change your existing furniture and modify it to make an exquisite piece. This is what reclaiming is all about. For instance, if you have a sofa you cannot bear to look at anymore, or a chair which is falling apart, try reupholstering it again in a completely different style. Otherwise, make some changes to the armrests or the back and it will look new. If all this fails, pull the piece apart and use the wood and other parts to create something new for your home.
You do not need an expert decorator, deep pockets or the best stores to do up your home. A little imagination and some dexterity can help make your home stand apart.
